Obama's memoir breaks first day sales records

by alex

The first volume of former US President Barack Obama's memoir, A Promised Land, broke sales records. Writes about this CNN with reference to the publishing house Penguin Random House.

Pre-order sales and first day sales reached a record 887,000 copies for the publisher. It is noted that hundreds of thousands of people have placed the order. 3.4 million copies have already been published for the USA and Canada.

CNN adds that on November 17 – when the first volume of the memoir came out – a bookstore in Washington opened at night specifically to sell the book. In his third book, Obama speaks out about Russia, the United States' policy in the Middle East, and the administration of current President Donald Trump.

In particular, in his memoirs, Obama said that Russia had lost its superpower status. In his opinion, first of all, this is evidenced by the fact that Moscow does not have enough allies and military bases. Moreover, Russia remains too dependent on the export of oil, gas, minerals and weapons. He also noted the high rates of corruption and low life expectancy of the male population recorded in a number of research organizations.
