Former US President Barack Obama said he was “very proud” of his daughters for joining the protests calling for racial justice in the summer. He told about this in an interview with People.
“I am extremely proud of them,” said the 44th US President. Since the former president's family left the White House in 2017, his daughters Malia and Sasha Obama have largely remained out of sight, but they have been among tens of thousands of demonstrators this summer. It is noted that the girls were wearing masks and did not attract too much attention.
During the conversation, the former head of the White House said that 19-year-old Sasha and 22-year-old Malia felt “the need to take part” in nationwide demonstrations against police brutality after the deaths of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor and others.
“I didn't need to give them a lot of advice because they had a very clear idea of what was right and what was wrong, and their own freedom of choice, the power of their voice,” said the girls' father. “Malia and Sasha found their own ways to participate in the demonstrations and activism that you saw among young people this summer, without any prompting from [former US First Lady] Michelle and me, on their own initiative,” he added.
For months, there have been regular protests against racial injustice in the United States, starting with the death of a black guard George Floyd during his arrest in May.
