American nutritionists Jennifer Weiss, Sarah Peternell and Kim Denhouse talked about the benefits of broccoli for the heart, liver and joints. It is reported by the “Real Simple” edition.
Broccoli is low in carbohydrates, high in fiber, and a significant source of vitamins C and K. They also contain vitamin A, folate, potassium, phosphorus and selenium, Weiss added. Peternell stated that broccoli is beneficial for the body in resisting disease and infection due to two types of antioxidants, sulforaphane and indoles, which act as regulators of detoxifying enzymes that protect cells.
“The antioxidants that come from green vegetables prevent heart disease by strengthening blood vessels and reducing the growth of body fat on their walls,” Denhouse said.
Nutritionists stressed that broccoli is also loaded with chromium, which affects the production of norepinephrine, melatonin, and serotonin, which affect a person's mood. Thanks to the use of this vegetable, the functioning of the liver and joints improves – sulforaphane reduces inflammation of the cartilage.
Earlier, nutritionist Evgenia Degtyannikova said that with a lack of hemoglobin in the body, red meat, by-products and foods containing vitamin C should be consumed: lingonberries, sauerkraut, kiwi, broccoli. They, according to the expert, help to absorb iron.
