In an interview with Sputnik radio, Irina Berezhnaya, candidate of medical sciences, gastroenterologist, nutritionist, named foods hazardous to health on the New Year's table.

Sausage, cold cuts, and caviar are high in salt, which retains water in the body and can cause high blood pressure, edema, and stress on the heart and kidneys, she said.

The specialist advised to abandon such products or supplement the menu with other healthier dishes. She recommended adding a lot of fresh vegetables, lettuce, parsley and dill to the festive table. “These foods contain fiber, high levels of antioxidants and vitamins, which are healthy enough,” she explained.

Earlier, the Russians were warned about the rise in price of the New Year's table. Economists Maslennikov and Margolin reported an increase in the price of sweets, champagne, fresh fruits, vegetables, red fish and caviar. It is also predicted that the price of raw smoked and dry-cured sausages will rise (by 10-15 percent), as well as eggs.
