Umar Nurmagomedov
Russian mixed style fighter (MMA) Umar Nurmagomedov announced his readiness to fight with compatriot Peter Yan – the current holder of the Absolute Fighting Championship (UFC) bantamweight belt. The athlete's interview was posted on the UFC Russia Instagram account.
24-year-old Nurmagomedov admitted that he respects Yan, but considers himself a competitor of the Russian UFC champion. “If I thought that I could not compete with him, I could sit on the couch and do nothing, not train,” he is convinced. Nurmagomedov also noted that their possible fight would be the pride of all Russians.
Nurmagomedov will make his organization debut at UFC 254 on October 25. The main fight of the evening will feature his cousin Khabib Nurmagomedov, who will defend the UFC lightweight belt against American Justin Gajee.
Jan is the UFC bantamweight champion. The Russian won the title fight after a streak of six victories in the promotion. On July 12, he knocked out former champion José Aldou and won the belt, becoming the second Russian title holder in the history of the organization after Khabib Nurmagomedov.
