Russian mixed style fighter (MMA) Khabib Nurmagomedov appreciated the comparison with the former undisputed world boxing champion, American Mohammed Ali. An interview with the Russian is available on the True Gym YouTube channel.
Nurmagomedov considered the comparison to be incorrect. “He was a champion – I am a champion, he is a Muslim – I am a Muslim … They compare purely because of this,” said the fighter. He believed that in order to compare with Ali, one must “go back to his years and be black.”
On September 13, Nurmagomedov named the condition for completing his career. He noted that this will depend on the ability to reach peak fitness.
Nurmagomedov is known for his performances in the Absolute Fighting Championship (UFC). He has 28 wins in 28 fights according to the MMA rules. At UFC 254 in October, he will again defend the organization's lightweight belt. American Justin Gaji will become Nurmagomedov's rival.
Ali is one of the most titled and recognizable athletes in the world. He became the Olympic champion in 1960, the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world (1964-1966, 1974-1978), was named boxer of the year five times. During his career, the athlete had 61 fights, scoring 56 victories (37 by knockout).
