Recall that on April 15, 2019, a fire occurred in Notre Dame Cathedral. The main altar of the church was damaged when a burnt spire with three bells fell on it. The ceiling, made of oak from the 12th-13th centuries, was destroyed in the fire. All other relics – steles from the 18th century, pietas, frescoes, chapels and the 600-year-old Great Organ – remained intact.

To restore Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris, French and American carpenters used medieval techniques to process the oak beams of the roof destroyed by fire. Thanks to this, the building was restored to its original appearance.

According to experts, it could have taken 15-20 years to restore the Cathedral, but thanks to modern technology, it was possible to do it in five years. Computers were used to draw detailed plans for carpenters to ensure that their hand-turned beams fit together perfectly.
