To the ship that sank in In 1912, an ocean explorer and a billionaire descended onto the Titanic in a submersible. Their wish was not satisfied by the fact that last year the OceanGate device exploded during the same expedition.
IFLScience writes about this.
As noted, planning for the new voyage began when 74-year-old American billionaire Larry Connor called Patrick Leahy, co-founder and CEO of Triton Submarines.
A billionaire asked to build a submersible that could safely transport passengers to a ship that sank in 1912. The main requirement for the submarine was that it could dive repeatedly and safely to the depths where the Titanic is located.
According to Connor, he “wants to show people around the world that although the ocean is extremely powerful, it can be beautiful, enjoyable and truly life-changing if you do it right.”
A billionaire and a scientist plan to use a submersible called the Triton 4000/2 Abyssal Explorer on their trip. The company describes the submarine as “the deepest-sea acrylic submarine in the world.” This submarine can dive to a depth of 4 km. This device has already been used to explore the deepest places on Earth. The cost of the submarine is 20 million dollars.
Connor and Leahy hope to go to the Titanic wreck, located off the coast of Newfoundland at a depth of 3810 meters, and conduct a scientific study of this place.
Recall that one unit of the richest man on the Titanic was sold for a record amount.
