Poland also prohibits the entry of cars with Russian license plates.

From September 17, 2023, in Poland there will be a ban on the entry of cars with Russian license plates.

Minister of Internal Affairs Mariusz Kaminski recalled this.

“Following the publication on September 8 of this year of the European Commission directive banning the entry of vehicles registered in Russia into the EU, I would like to inform you that this ban at the Polish border will be in effect from tomorrow and will come into force today at midnight,” Kaminsky noted .

“Not a single Russian car will enter Poland. Ladies and gentlemen, this applies to all cars – both commercial and private, regardless of whether the person driving it or the owner of the car is a citizen of Russia or a citizen of another country,” he explained the minister and emphasized that a car registered in Russia does not have the right to enter Poland.

What is known about the ban

The Baltic countries have banned entry into their territory car with Russian license plates, following the recommendations of the European Commission.

On September 8, the European Commission extended sanctions against Russia and added new restrictions to them. The document states that if Russians enter in vehicles with a Russian license plate, this will be an illegal import according to EU standards. Therefore, countries will have the right to confiscate cars, smartphones, other equipment and valuables from those who violate this ban.

Subsequently, the European Commission softened the restrictions: cars remain banned, but on the seizure of personal items that “cause minor concern from the point of view of circumventing sanctions”, customs officers must act “proportionately and reasonably”. The changed text no longer talked about phones, laptops, etc.
