Commander-in-Chief of the Norwegian Air Force Oyvind Gunnerud responded to the incident.

Two Norwegian F-35 fighters were scrambled to intercept Russian Tu-95 bombers and two Su-33 aircraft that approached NATO airspace in the Far East North.

NATO Air Command reported this.

“Norwegian F-35 pilots quickly detected and identified the Russian aircraft while maintaining a safe distance, allowing them to closely monitor the aircraft's movements. The F-35's advanced capabilities allowed them to collect important information and ensure that the Russian aircraft did not violate NATO airspace,” the statement said.

Norwegian Air Force Chief of Staff Oyvind Gunnerud said the rapid response mission in the High North is key to NATO's national defense and collective security.

NATO Air Command stressed that “such intercepts underscore the importance of NATO's air policing mission.”

“The ability to identify, intercept and monitor potential threats is critical to maintaining regional security and stability. This includes the continued presence and readiness of fighter aircraft that can be configured to respond to potential loss of communications, airspace violations or activities that are inconsistent with international aviation law,” NATO reported.

Recall that NATO Secretary General recently made an important appeal to Germany due to the threat of war.
