Russia's use of North Korean missiles in its attack on Ukraine gives Pyongyang a rare chance to test its weapons in combat and perhaps learn lessons that could improve their effectiveness, a senior US general said.
North Korea's ballistic missiles undergo combat tests in Ukraine.
This was reported by Bloomberg journalists with reference to the words of a senior US general.
According to US Pacific Commander Charles Flynn, the North Korean army has “the kind of weapons laboratory” on the battlefield that the Russians are testing in Ukraine.
He expressed concern about the supply of North Korean ballistic missiles to Russia.
North Korea, according to the general, can thus improve the effectiveness of its weapons in battle. And we are talking primarily about the use of missiles like Hwasong 11 and others.
Flynn also said his and other senior U.S. officials' big concern was that North Korea would be able to recognize its weapons “that they wouldn't have access to in the absence of a conflict,” such as the war in Ukraine. At the same time, the general assured that the United States will closely monitor how this entire process will develop.
In his statement, Flynn said the United States is preparing to deploy intermediate-range missile systems in the Indo-Pacific region. Journalists say the decision could provoke China, which has previously warned US allies in the region of possible countermeasures if they allow the deployment of such missiles.
Flynn called North Korea's ongoing ballistic missile testing alarming and destabilizing. Last week, Kim Jong Un oversaw the test of a new ballistic missile designed to deploy a hypersonic vehicle delivering a nuclear payload to US bases in Japan and Guam.
Recall that NATO warned about the threat of a “union of authoritarian states” that cooperates against Western democracies. It was about Russia, Iran, China and North Korea, which are increasingly joining forces, providing each other with practical assistance.
