The North Korean representative to the UN called the information about sending troops rumors aimed at denigrating the image of the DPRK and undermining relations with the Russian Federation.
North Korea began to refute accusations from South Korea and Ukraine about sending troops to participate in the war on the side of Russia. The DPRK called this “baseless stereotypical rumors.”
Yonhap reports this with reference to a statement by the North Korean representative to the United Nations at a meeting of the First Committee of the UN General Assembly.
North Korean authorities stated that their relations with Russia are “legitimate and capable of cooperation.” This statement is the first official reaction to information from South Korean intelligence about the DPRK's intentions to send about 12,000 troops to help Russia in the war against Ukraine.
Note that according to South Korean intelligence, 1,500 fighters have already been sent from North Korea to Vladivostok for adaptation training.
“As for the so-called military cooperation with Russia, my delegation does not need to comment on such baseless stereotypical rumors aimed at tarnishing the image of the DPRK and undermining the legitimate relations of friendship and cooperation between the two sovereign states,” the North Korean representative said in UN.
