South Korea reports that North Korean hackers launched an attack on vaccine maker Pfizer.
North Korean hackers reportedly tried to hack pharmaceutical company Pfizer. This is reported by the South Korean secret service. The aim of the attack is said to have been information about the corona vaccine. In addition, the hackers are said to have tried to get information about treatments for the disease.
According to the BBC, it is unclear at the time whether the hackers even managed to obtain information or whether the attack was averted early. Pfizer has not yet commented publicly on this.
According to official information from North Korea, the country has not yet recorded a single case of Covid 19 diseases. Nevertheless, the country has ordered vaccine and expects a delivery from AstraZeneca-Oxford with around two million doses in the next few weeks. North Korea closed its borders in January last year as soon as the coronavirus spread in China.
It's not the first time hackers have targeted vaccination information. As Microsoft reported in November, around nine healthcare companies such as Pfizer were attacked by hackers from North Korea and Russia.
Behind it are the two North Korean hacking groups Zinc and Cerium and the Russian group Fancy Bear. Officials from Russia have always denied the hacking attacks.
