Kim Jong-un explained the expediency of the test “the inevitability of a long confrontation with the US imperialists, accompanied by the danger of nuclear war.”
North Korea has confirmed that, on the orders of leader Kim Jong-in, it has tested its largest intercontinental ballistic missile, the Hwangsong-17, which can deliver a nuclear warhead anywhere in the continental United States.
This was reported on Friday, March 25, by the Japanese edition of Kyodo, citing the state media of the DPRK.
The report said the North Korean leader “gave a written order” to conduct tests on Wednesday and visited the launch site on Thursday, March 24. Thus, the launch took place at a time when the United States and its security allies were meeting in Brussels to discuss the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
According to state media, the missile was launched from Pyongyang International Airport, climbed maximum altitude of 6248 km and flew a distance of 1090 km during a 67-minute flight, after which it crashed into the Sea of Japan.
Kim Jong-un explained to state media the need for the test by the “daily escalation of military tensions in and around the Korean Peninsula” and “the inevitability of a protracted confrontation with the US imperialists, accompanied by the danger of nuclear war.”
The North Korean leader also said, that the Hwangsong-17 can deliver a nuclear warhead anywhere in the continental United States and this will be a reliable deterrent to nuclear war.
The United States and North Korea technically remain at war because the Korean War of 1950-1953, in which US-led UN forces fought alongside South Korea against China- and Soviet-backed North Korea, ended in a ceasefire rather than a peace treaty. .
North Korea is prohibited from launching ballistic missiles in accordance with UN Security Council resolutions due to the sanctions imposed against the country.
Pyongyang officially announced in April 2018 the cessation of nuclear tests and launches of intercontinental ballistic missiles. However, less than four years later, he broke his promise.
U.S. Ambassador to the UN Linda Thomas-Greenfield told reporters that the United States had asked for a public meeting of the Security Council on this launch and hoped to hold it on Friday, March 25.
Recall that earlier North Korean leader Kim Jong-un visited the state space agency and said that the reconnaissance satellite being created in his country is designed to collect information about the US military in the region and their “vassal forces”.
