The size of the Nobel Prize will be increased by one million SEK. This opinion was reached by the board of directors of the Nobel Foundation, according to the organization's website.
From 2020, the size of the Nobel Prize will be increased to SEK 10 million, or about $ 1.1 million. The prize will be increased in each prize category. “The work done in recent years to strengthen the financial position of the Nobel Foundation has increased the amount of the prize,” – said in a statement.
The fund's website states that the organization's budget since the beginning of 2012 has grown significantly from almost 3 to 4.6 billion Swedish kronor. The fund representatives noted that this became possible thanks to good financial performance, competent management and lower operating costs. “The ambition of the Nobel Foundation is that in the future the size of the prize is combined with the growth of income in society,” said the chief executive of the organization Lars Heikensten.
The announcement of the 2020 Nobel Prize winners will begin on October 5. The award ceremony will take place on the anniversary of the death of Alfred Nobel – December 10.
