Shifts in the WTA calendar: The “Upper Austria Ladies Linz” could take place in November or December.
Austria's only women's tournament on the WTA Tour, the “Upper Austria Ladies Linz”, will not take place from October 10th to 17th as planned this year. Postponements in the tournament calendar due to the coronavirus pandemic make this measure necessary. “A decision will be made within the next 14 days,” announced organizer Peter-Michael Reichel and his daughter Sandra, who is the tournament director, on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, Peter-Michael Reichel can look forward to remaining on an important committee. The 68-year-old Upper Austrian resident in Switzerland continues to be Europe's highest-ranking official on the WTA Tour Board. Reichel was re-elected for another three years, i.e. until 2024. He has been a member of the WTA's “Board of Directors” since 2000.
“In an exciting time that we are currently experiencing, this is remarkable in that I am not a fan of long periods in office. But in this challenging situation for all of us, which will also accompany us in 2022 and 2023, I made up my mind a few years to append “, Reichel explained in a broadcast.
