Ukrainian skeletonist Vladislav Geraskevich publicly spoke out against the war in Ukraine during the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing.

After the third race, he showed a message to the camera addressed to the spectators of the Olympic competitions. On a small poster was the inscription No war in Ukraine (No war in Ukraine – Ed. ).

At the end of the third qualifying attempt, Geraskevich became 17th with a time of 3:04.83 and reached the final race, where he took 17th place at the 2022 Olympics with a time of 4:06.28.

Gold in skeleton went to the German Christopher Grotcher, silver also went to the representative of Germany Axel Jung, but the bronze was won by the Chinese skeletonist Wentgan Yan.

For Vladislav Geraskevich, this is the second Olympiad in his career. At the 2018 Pyeongchang Games, he finished 12th. He is the only representative of Ukraine in this sport.

In the 2021/22 season, Geraskevich took 16th place in the overall World Cup standings. But he showed the best result in his career, finishing sixth in Sigulda.

The Russian Federation has been pulling troops to the Ukrainian borders since the end of October 2021. According to the Minister of Defense of Ukraine Oleksiy Reznikov, as of February 7, 140,000 Russian military forces were stationed along the borders of Ukraine.
