With the founding of the Super League, twelve top European clubs caused an earthquake in European football. But who should transfer it?
The twelve clubs from England, Spain and Italy promise football at the highest level with their advance. That was worth 3.5 billion euros to the US bank JP Morgan. This sum is to be distributed to 20 participating clubs.
The sale of TV rights is expected to raise $ 4 billion. However, so far there has been noisy rejection from TV broadcasters and streaming services. Probably out of fear of frustrated fans calling for a boycott, no company has yet been found that would like to broadcast the planned premiere from August.
According to a report in the Financial Times, the Super League founders are said to have already had talks with Amazon, Facebook and Disney. The streaming services deny this, however.
Amazon, after having secured a Champions League rights package in Germany, said: “Amazon understands and shares the concerns of football fans about a breakaway Super League. We believe that part of the drama and beauty of European football comes from the opportunity for every club insists on achieving success through its performance on the field. “
The Sky group had already made a similar statement on Monday. “We are fully concentrating on supporting our long-term football partners in Great Britain and Europe,” said the pay-TV channel that will be broadcasting the Champions League together with Servus TV from next season. Streaming giant DAZN has already waved off that it is in no way involved or interested in recording talks about the Super League.
According to the “Financial Times” report, Facebook also rejected rumors of rights negotiations. Therefore, only the Disney sports channel ESPN remains. Whether the US broadcaster will actually strike is open. European rights holders such as BT Sports from Great Britain or Mediapro from Spain have meanwhile made an oath of loyalty to the Champions League.
