No reason: Danilov said that Ukraine does not plan to close the airspace

Ukraine is not going to close its airspace for civil aviation. There are currently no grounds for such a move.

Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Oleksiy Danilov announced this in a commentary to journalists after a closed meeting with the participation of deputies of the Verkhovna Rada.

He noted that the information about the alleged blocking of the airspace of Ukraine or the closure of seaports is not true.

– We do not close our sky and are not going to close today. And there are no grounds for this, – Danilov emphasized.

Commenting on the problems that have arisen with air carriers' risk insurance, the NSDC Secretary said that in this way some companies are reinsured.

– Concerning some companies that have aircraft in leasing and are reinsured. This is primarily due to the Netherlands. Do you remember when the Russian Federation shot down MH17 in the Donetsk region. Today they are reinsured,” Danilov explained.

He recalled that yesterday at an urgent meeting, the Cabinet of Ministers decided to allocate UAH 16.6 billion for financial guarantees for insurance companies, reinsurers, leasing companies and air carriers.

The day before, information appeared about the temporary suspension of coverage of military risks in aviation insurance in the airspace of Ukraine. The point is that if an aircraft is hypothetically damaged as a result of hostilities in our country, the insurance company refuses to cover this damage.

Therefore, lessors that provide aircraft for use by air carriers demanded that the aircraft be brought to the European Union.

The Ukrainian low-cost airline SkyUp faced such a situation: the lessor banned one of the company’s aircraft from flying into the airspace of Ukraine.

And Ukraine International Airlines (UIA) reported that it would send five Boeing 737-800 aircraft to Spain at the request of lessors.
