No “Indian” strain of coronavirus detected in Russia

A new “Indian” strain of coronavirus with a double mutation has not been found in Russia. This was stated by the head of the scientific group for the development of new methods for diagnosing human diseases at the Central Research Institute of Epidemiology of Rospotrebnadzor Kamil Khafizov, writes TASS.

“According to the results of monitoring the genetic variability of the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus in Russia, carried out by the laboratories of the institutes of Rospotrebnadzor, the above variant of the pathogen has not yet been identified in Russia,” said Khafizov.

At the same time, the scientist noted that Rospotrebnadzor specialists sequenced several isolates in which there were mutations separately, but related to other strains of coronavirus.

In mid-April, it became known that India became the 60th country in the world to approve the use of the Russian Sputnik V vaccine.
