Earthquake has nothing to do with it: Nord Stream leak was caused by explosions — Reuters

Seismic activity detected in the area of gas leak in pipelines was caused by explosions in the water by explosions, and not in the rock under the seabed, the expert emphasized.

Leak on gas pipelines “Nord Stream 1” and Nord Stream 2 were the result of underwater explosions.

This is stated in a statement by the seismologist of the Swedish National Seismic Network Bern Lund, Reuters reports.

According to Lund, the seismic activity detected in the area of gas leaks in pipelines was caused by explosions in the water, and not in the rock under the seabed.

At the same time, Danish Prime Minister Matte Frederiksen said that the possibility of sabotage cannot be ruled out.

“We are talking about three sources with some distance between them, and therefore it is difficult to imagine that this is a coincidence,” said the head of the Danish government.

Norwegian Minister of Petroleum and Energy Terje Aasland also agreed that the cause of the leak could be sabotage.

“Based on the information we've seen so far, there's a lot that points to acts of sabotage,” he said.

According to Aasland, the Norwegian government on Tuesday, On September 27, it decided to increase emergency preparedness for infrastructure, onshore and offshore installations on the Norwegian continental shelf.

Recall, on September 26, Denmark reported a gas leak from the inoperative Nord Stream 2 pipeline and the Nord Stream 1 pipeline. The leak was recorded in the Baltic Sea off the coast of the island of Bornholm. A number of states, including Russia, said that sabotage could be the cause of the accidents.
