Nine people died from methyl alcohol poisoning in Tyumen. This was reported by TASS with reference to the Investigative Committee for the Tyumen Region.

“According to the investigation, in the period from January 3, 2022, in retail outlets located on the streets of Stavropolskaya and Rizhskaya in the city of Tyumen, several persons sold to citizens an unlicensed alcohol-containing liquid (methyl alcohol) with a vodka label“ Springs of Siberia ”, which poses a danger to life and the health of consumers, ”the UK said in a statement.

It is noted that in hot pursuit law enforcement officers detained four suspects born in 1971, 1993, 1974 and 1987. Distribution points of life-threatening products were located in the central region of Tyumen. On the fact of the deaths of nine Tyumen residents, a criminal case was opened under Part 3 of Article 238 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“The sale of goods and products that do not meet the requirements of the safety of life or health of consumers, resulting in the death of two or more persons by negligence”).

Earlier it became known that the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Economic Development and the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Russia want to consider a package of measures that can simplify the access of small and rural traders to a license to sell alcohol. The authors of the project hope that in this way it will be possible to fight surrogate alcohol.
