The first nuclear-powered icebreaker of the Leader project will be launched in 2027, Deputy Prime Minister, curator of the development of the Far East and the Arctic, Yuri Trutnev, said at the “government hour” at the Federation Council.
In total, nine more icebreakers for the Northern Sea Route are planned to be commissioned this decade, in addition to the five already existing.
– By 2026, four more nuclear-powered icebreakers of the 22220 project will be commissioned. And by mid-2022, it is planned to develop technical specifications for the design and construction of four LNG icebreakers, '' Trutnev said.
The ice-class cargo fleet will triple by the end of this decade, the Deputy Prime Minister noted. In particular, it is planned to build more than 30 tankers, 40 bulk carriers and 22 container ships. Starting from 2022, regular container shipments of fish from the Far East to the European part of Russia along the Northern Sea Route will be launched.
By 2024, the cargo turnover of ports on the Northern Sea Route will amount to 85 million tons. This will be achieved thanks to the construction of the Bukhta Sever port, the Yenisei and Utrenny terminals, as well as the modernization of the ports in Pevek, Murmansk and Arkhangelsk. Now the annual volume of traffic along the Northern Sea Route is only 33 million tons (for comparison, more than 1 billion tons through the Suez Canal).
On April 11-13, 2022, the International Arctic Forum will be held in St. Petersburg, in which Vladimir Putin is planned to participate.
