Nikkei: Japan Will Conduct Antimonopoly Review Of Apple And Google

TOKYO, June 13. / TASS /. The Japanese government intends to conduct an audit of the activities of Apple and Google for violations of antitrust laws and hindering fair competition. This was reported on Sunday by the Nikkei newspaper.

According to her, this month a government commission will begin investigating how Apple and Google interact with Japanese smartphone and software makers. US IT giants are believed to be using their dominance to curb competition, including forcing competitors to install their (Apple and Google) search tools and applications as standard equipment.

The share of software operating systems Apple iOS and Google Android in the Japanese market reaches 90%. If it detects any violations or suspicious transactions, the Japanese government may tighten antitrust laws, the newspaper explains.

In April, the European Commission (EC) accused Apple of violating European antitrust regulations in the field of music streaming, which leads to additional costs for users of the American company's devices and competitive losses for European streaming platforms. Apple faces a 10% fine on its annual income. The EC is also conducting two more investigations, including those related to the Apple Pay payment system and the gaming application market.
