On January 27, protests were held in the center of Tbilisi against the curfew due to coronavirus restrictions, Sputnik Georgia writes.

“Our goal is to show that we will not give up freedom because of unreasonable restrictions,” activist Giorgi Mumladze said at the rally. This is not the first time the march against the restrictions due to COVID-19 is taking place in the capital of Georgia, many activists were previously fined, now a criminal case can be opened against them.

According to Georgian law, for violating the curfew (from 21:00 to 5:00) amid the coronavirus pandemic, a fine of 2,000 lari (about $ 600) is threatened. Repeatedly this act is punishable by three years in prison. The arrests on January 27 were not reported.

A new wave of protests against coronavirus restrictions swept the republic after the government decided to postpone the lifting of quarantines in Tbilisi, Kutaisi and Rustavi until March 1. Because of this, many citizens lost their businesses and jobs, and incomes of the population fell sharply. According to the latest data, 255,564 people have been infected with coronavirus in Georgia, more than three thousand patients have become victims of the infection.
