Artemy Panarin
The leadership of the National Hockey League (NHL) demanded evidence of the charges against New York Rangers striker Artemy Panarin in the case of beating an 18-year-old girl. This was announced by New York Post journalist Larry Brooks.
According to the source, the NHL has not launched an independent investigation against Panarin. The League will initiate proceedings if there is credible evidence that the incident took place.
On February 20, Panarin's former coach Andrei Nazarov, in an interview with Komsomolskaya Pravda, accused the hockey player of beating a girl. He stated that the incident took place in one of the bars in Riga in 2011. Latvian journalists contacted the hotel in the bar of which Panarin allegedly attacked an 18-year-old visitor, and learned that there was no incident indicated by the coach.
The Rangers called the accusations an attempt to intimidate the hockey player, who is known for his harsh statements about the political situation in Russia. The NHL also supported the player.
