Bernhard Seikovits

Bernhard Seikovits on his way to the NFL! The Viennese hopes to make the jump into the Arizona line-up – and talks about his strange nickname.

Two games, two missions – things are going well for Bernhard Seikovits in the preparation for the season. But now it gets really exciting: On Sunday night (2:00 a.m.) the Arizona Cardinals play their last preseason game against the New Orleans Saints. The following Tuesday, the final roster for the NFL season will be fixed.

“My goal is the active roster,” explains Seikovits. The ex-Vikings player not only works on this in training, but also in his free time. “I get real homework from my team-mates,” reveals the 24-year-old. “I recently had to watch a movie and take notes on life and culture in the US.” Tight-end colleague Maxx Williams in particular is a strict teacher and constantly checks Seikovits, as he reports to the US media.

In fact, the 117-kilo chunk is getting along better and better overseas, but is also noticing more and more differences to life in Austria. “The humor is a little different,” he grins. “The food is spiced more strongly. And people have a different way of living their lives in everyday life.”

Seikovits has already made an appearance on US television. He was interviewed with Isaac Alarcon on the HBO show “Hard Knocks”. Like Seikovits, the Dallas Cowboys player came to the NFL through the International Player Pathway Program.

Will Seikovits make the leap into the regular formation? Cardinals head coach Kliff Kingsbury said: “He is developing well, is very intelligent and attentive – a hard worker. His athleticism is impressive too, and he is sure to find his role in the team.”

In any case, Seikovits already has his nickname, and it's strange. “They call me the psycho,” he laughs. “I never thought that 'Seiko' could be interpreted that way. But 'Psycho' is probably a little easier for Americans to pronounce.”
