New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern announced the easing of quarantine in the country's largest city, Auckland – after that it became clear that the country had completely coped with the second outbreak of coronavirus. This is reported by Axios.
“Residents of Auckland and New Zealand adhered to a plan that worked twice, and once again defeated the virus,” the head of government said. She congratulated the residents of Auckland on the end of the second quarantine, which was introduced in August. It is noted that now they will be allowed to hold mass events there. At the same time, Ardern urged the population not to lose vigilance, despite the fact that the spread of the coronavirus is under control.
In August, the head of WHO, Tedros Adan Ghebreyesus, called New Zealand an example for the whole world, highlighting the efforts of the local government. Prior to that, in July, it was revealed that Ardern received international praise for a strong and early response that helped to block the spread of the first wave of the virus.
