New York pays $ 1,000 a month to young criminals

A program launched in New York, in which young people who had or are in serious problems with the law, began to receive $ 1,000 a month from the state treasury, was criticized. Some even called her insane.

The idea to reward young gangsters with a considerable sum for good behavior came to the head of the city's mayor Bill di Blasio, reports Fox News.

So far, she is being tested at five police stations – one for each borough in New York. And it has already cost the city 1 million dollars.

The mayor said that the model is progressive and “guarantees a safer city for future generations.”

But not everyone is delighted with this idea. First of all, due to the fact that besides the payments itself, it does not provide for any other elements of the rehabilitation of young criminals and offenders, many of whom remain members of gangs or are in contact with senior “mentors”.

Trying to buy law abiding is not New York know-how. It has already been used in Texas and California.

In Richmond, California, where such a program was launched earlier than anyone else, according to statistics, between 2010 and 2017, the number of crimes related to the use of weapons decreased by 66%. However, then the curve of such crimes went up sharply.
