Widgets will be added to the OS from Microsoft. This is reported by the Windows Latest edition.
The new feature was noticed in the beta version of the built-in Windows browser Edge. The widget is placed on the desktop and works independently of the parent program. In particular, the widget will work and display certain information even if the user closes Edge. According to the declassified data, the user will be able to customize the widget for himself in such a way that it shows information of interest to him – news, weather forecast, stock reports, and so on.
Also, journalists found in the beta version of the browser a standard widget that displays news headlines from the Bing MSN service. The widget can be placed anywhere on the desktop, docked on top of other windows and minimized if necessary.
Also, in the development version of Microsoft's browser, they found a search by tabs and menus with extensions. The company will be testing Edge among a small group of Windows users.
Widgets are used as part of the interface on many – mostly mobile – operating systems. For example, in the summer of 2020, Apple introduced iOS 14 and iPadOS 14, which introduced widgets designed to make it easier to interact with the OS.
Earlier, network insiders showed how the updated Start menu will look in Windows 10. According to the images, the menu will receive rounded corners instead of straight ones and a few pixels separating it from the control panel. The Sun Valley version, which introduces a new menu, will be available to users in mid-2021.
