A new type of coronavirus has been found in eight European countries. This was announced on Twitter by the head of the Regional Office of the World Health Organization (WHO) Hans Kluge.
“Eight regions of Europe have identified a new variant of COVID-19 – VOC-202012/01. It is vital to strengthen existing protective measures, ”wrote Kluge.
He called for keeping distance, wearing masks and not leaving the “bubbles of support” – special groups that limit social circle during a pandemic, and added that, apparently, the new strain is spreading among younger populations. Kluge stressed the need to remain vigilant.
A dangerous mutation of the coronavirus was first discovered in the UK in September, more than a thousand cases with this particular strain of a deadly disease are known. A day earlier, it was reported that she reached Asia – she was identified in Japan.
