Key points
- Russia said it had a “strategic advantage” and would not give it up for a ceasefire.
- Russia demanded that the US, Great Britain and France stop supplying weapons to Ukraine, but they did not do so, which the Kremlin considers a “problem”.
The Kremlin believes it has a “strategic advantage.” And it is not going to give it up for a 30-day truce.
Putin's press secretary Dmitry Peskov stated this in an interview with Sky News, Channel 24 reports.
Russia Invented a “Problem” to Keep the Fire Going
In recent weeks, Russia has particularly stepped up its attacks on Ukraine and continues to ignore all calls for a 30-day ceasefire.
We now have a strategic advantage. Why should we lose it? We will not lose it. We are moving forward. We are advancing and will continue to advance, Putin's henchman cynically declared.
He also added that in order to conclude a ceasefire, Russia demanded that the US, Great Britain, and France stop supplying weapons to Ukraine, but they did not do so.
According to Peskov, “this is where the problem lies.”
Let us recall that Russia recently stated that it is ready to continue peace negotiations with Ukraine after June 22.
The Central Intelligence Agency responded to the Kremlin's statement
The head of the Central Intelligence Agency stated that Peskov once again showed the world that Russia does not need a ceasefire because it wants to advance further along the front.
Therefore, in relations with the Russians, only force will help.
If the Russians are stopped, if the Russians are beaten painfully, if they are deprived of economic opportunities, because everything economic is now being poured into the military-industrial complex – then a real corridor for rational dialogue will open. As long as the West does not make the necessary efforts, Russia will fight, – Kovalenko noted.
In his opinion, the rational approach that the US believed in does not work here.
“They (Russians – 24 Kanal) have an understanding of the existential pains of the collapse of the USSR and the loss of great influence in Europe and the world. And they transfer these insane pains to the battlefield in a crazy way, while simultaneously humiliating themselves before China, and even the DPRK, on which their ability to fight depends. And before the United States, whose sanctions they fear most of all,” the head of the CPD added.
Russia presents the battles for Pokrovsk or raids in Sumy region as “geopolitical shifts,” but globally, this is absurd.
“However, the Russians do not consider this absurd. The West's complete lack of understanding of Russia, unfortunately, remains. I would really not like the West to understand the importance of forceful methods only after the attack in the Baltics,” the head of the CPD concluded.
