New Sugar Danger Revealed

by alex

Scientists at the University of Colorado in the United States have discovered that sugar consumption may be associated with conditions such as attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). The new danger of sweets is reported in a press release posted on MedicalXpress.

Researchers have shown that fructose, which is included in sugar with glucose, and uric acid, which is produced during glucose metabolism, increase the risk of behavior disorders. This is due to the property of fructose to waste the body's energy, causing a person to respond to the search for food, similar to that observed during fasting.

Thus, fructose stimulates risk taking, impulsivity, novelty, quick decision making, and aggressiveness. Overactivation of this process due to excess sugar intake can cause impulsive behavior that can range from ADHD to bipolar disorder or even aggression.

Consumption of fructose has increased dramatically over the past century and may be excessive due to the large amounts of sugar found in the current Western diet. However, the researchers emphasize that sugar may be just one of the factors that trigger aggression.
