New space satellites “Glonass-K2”, which will begin to be launched into orbit from next year, turned out to be four times more expensive than their predecessors. This was reported by RIA Novosti with reference to the material of the state corporation “Roscosmos”.
According to the company, new-generation spacecraft are four times more expensive than the Glonass-M satellites, which mainly comprise the Russian navigation group GLONASS. They also cost twice as much as the Glonass-K1 devices, which have been launched since 2011. The reasons for this increase in the cost of new satellites are not disclosed.
Earlier it was reported that Roskosmos asked to allocate trillions of rubles from the state budget for the creation of the Yenisei super-heavy rocket, the deployment of the Sphere near-earth satellite system (a partial competitor to Starlink from Elon Musk) and the modernization of the Global Navigation Satellite System (GLONASS).
