The International Space Station (ISS) discovered new problems with equipment and hull, said Dmitry Rogozin, general director of Roscosmos. His words are quoted by RIA Novosti.
“Happy New Year! I wish you to cure the problems that you encountered both in terms of equipment and in terms of the corps itself, “Rogozin said, addressing his congratulations to the Russian cosmonauts on the ISS –
Anton Shkaplerov and Peter Dubrov. He was told that the astronauts had an idea of how to deal with the problem.
Earlier, cracks appeared in the ISS hull: in 2019 and 2020, when problems were found in the intermediate chamber of the Zvezda module. In March 2021, the crack was repaired. It is possible that the reason for the leak in the Russian module of the ISS “Zvezda” was a production error. The wrong weld could not withstand long-term operation, explained Vladimir Soloviev, General Designer of the Rocket and Space Corporation Energia, Flight Director of the ISS Russian Segment, cosmonaut, twice Hero of the Soviet Union.
In September, a fire broke out in the Zvezda module. Cosmonaut Oleg Novitsky said that an alarm went off at the station, the crew saw smoke and smelled. Later, the devices showed the presence of harmful combustion products.
