Jordan Pickford
England and the goalkeepers – a difficult subject. But Jordan Pickford shines at the EM – and breaks a record.
Usually the keepers are not the strongest part of the Three Lions. But at the EM, Pickford shows that there is another way. In five games he did not concede a single goal. This makes him the most successful goalkeeper in a European Championship after beating Ukraine 4-0 in the quarter-finals. The previous record was held by Germany goalie Manuel Neuer, who was unbeaten for four games in a row in 2016.
When it comes to major events, Pickford is now tied with Walter Zenga on the all-time list of the best. The Italian icon also stayed five games in a row without conceding a goal in 1990, but in a World Cup. It remains to be seen whether Pickford will soon be the sole record holder. England will face Denmark in the semi-finals on Wednesday. 60,000 fans will keep their fingers crossed at Wembley Stadium in London.
