Polar explorer Morten Rush announced the discovery of the northernmost island on Earth.
The opening was unexpected, writes Gazeta.ru. A scientific expedition went to that part of Greenland to collect the necessary samples. However, suddenly the researchers discovered a new piece of land.
The island is quite small – its size is about 30 meters. It consists of the seabed of silt and moraine. Scientists have proposed to name the island Qeqertaq Avannarleq. This, translated from Greenlandic, actually means “the northernmost island”.
Scientists have recently found confirmation that they have found a new submerged continent – Zealand. It turned out to be even larger than originally anticipated. Most of the continent, about 94%, is located under the waters of the Pacific Ocean.
