Mark Rutte stressed that "we must ensure that Ukraine wins".

For the new NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, the key priority will remain supporting Ukraine, ensuring the conditions for its victory, as well as strengthening transatlantic ties and global partnership in addressing issues security.

Rutte himself stated this during the ceremony of transfer of powers of the NATO leader on October 1, Ukrinform reports.

“You mentioned the priorities that we will promote in the future. This is Ukraine. We must ensure that Ukraine wins as a sovereign independent democratic state,” the new head of the Alliance emphasized.

Among the priorities, he also named NATO's deterrence and defense system.

“We must increase the level of our collective defense, and you have done so much for this. And, of course, this is NATO's global partnership, expanding and deepening it so that it responds to the manifestations of danger in the world,” Rutte said during an approach to the press with former Secretary General of the Alliance Jens Stoltenberg.

By the way, the White House earlier stated that the United States welcomes the decision to appoint Rutte to the post of NATO Secretary General. They pointed out President Joe Biden's conviction that “Rutte will be an excellent Secretary General.”
