Karl Schmidhofer and Christian Scherer
Karl Schmidhofer is no longer the President of the Austrian Ski Federation and has resigned for private reasons. What's next in the ski association?
After only 100 days in office, Schmidhofer resigns for private reasons, and his son suffered a stroke at the age of only 35. The family emergency situation no longer allows an activity as ÖSV president. So the ski association has to reposition itself.
Memories of the campaign mud fight at the beginning of the year come to mind. According to Secretary General Christian Scherer, who takes over the current day-to-day business on an interim basis, this will no longer happen.
“The last election was not necessarily an advertisement. We now have experience, we know what we should no longer do, what does not do justice to the image of the association. Everyone in the association has learned something new,” said Scherer at a media meeting on Thursday.
There are now two scenarios for the successor to Schmidhofer: Either the current interim representation under Roswitha Stadlober will be confirmed until the next international conference in June 2022, or there will be an early election.
“At this point in time, I cannot judge which of the regional association presidents will decide on the proposal of the presidium,” says the general secretary, still groping in the dark. The ÖSV committees want to make a decision next week.
