New law will force Apple to make charging in smartphones the same as on Android

by alex

Next month, the European Commission is due to submit a law according to which Apple will be obliged to replace the proprietary Lightning connector with USB-C.

The law will establish a single charging connector for all mobile phones and other devices in all countries of the European Union. The move is expected to hit Apple first, as many popular Android devices already ship with USB-C ports.

In 2018, the European Commission has already tried to introduce a law. Then Apple said that its implementation would create a lot of junk as consumers would be forced to switch to new cables. After that, the European Commission conducted a study and found out that half of the charging cables sold have USB micro-B connectors, 29% are USB-C, and 21% are Lightning. As a result, the members of the commission voted for the introduction of a single connector.
