New iPhone rental service launched in Moscow

Telephones.

The mobile operator MTS, in partnership with the startup Arenter, has launched a monthly rental service for smartphones. So far, it will be available only to residents of Moscow and the Moscow region, and it will be possible to test only the latest iPhone lines – XR, 11, 12 and 13. A similar project is being prepared by Megafon, but without restrictions on models and regions. But operators should not rely on high demand for rent, experts say.

If the project is successful, MTS will introduce the service in other regions and include products from other brands in the offer, Kommersant noted.

According to the publication, the rental price will depend on the smartphone model. The iPhone 11 in the minimum configuration will cost 4,200 rubles per month, and the iPhone 13 Pro Max in the amount of 8,900 rubles.

MTS assured that customers will not be held responsible for minor defects that arise during use. At the same time, in case of severe damage, the gadget will be given for examination, and after it, from 10 to 100% of the cost of the smartphone can be deducted from the client.

Mobile Research Group analyst Eldar Murtazin said that renting a smartphone is unprofitable for users, since, having paid in fact the full cost for a year, they will not receive ownership of it. “At the same time, leasing flagship smartphones is profitable: the device can pay off in nine months,” he added.

Murtazin noted that those wishing to test new iPhones will use the service, but there will not be many of them. “The only advantage of a short-term lease is that you can always refuse,” the specialist explained.

Earlier, “Secret” wrote that the court banned the sale of 61 models of Samsung smartphones in Russia, including the latest Samsung Galaxy Z Flip and Samsung Galaxy Fold. This decision was made after a patent dispute and a ban on the use of the Samsung Pay payment system in the Russian Federation. The defendant intends to appeal the decision.
