Due to the corona mutation, flights from Great Britain are no longer allowed to land in Austria until January 10, the corresponding regulation will be extended with an amendment published today. The ORF reports. What is also new is that another ban will be issued. Airmen from South Africa, where a mutated virus variant is also spreading, are therefore prohibited from landing in Austria.
As the German “Spiegel” reports, the government is reacting after more than a week to a worrying corona loophole that was exploited by many German passengers.
Accordingly, Lufthansa had rebooked the majority of its passengers on AUA flights from Cape Town to Vienna due to the landing ban in Germany since December 22. The passengers stranded in Schwechat should then fight back to their home country on their own.
In the late afternoon, a last AUA machine started for Cape Town and is scheduled to touch down in South Africa on Tuesday morning. After that, only the return of a plane is planned.
