A new strain of coronavirus with a double mutation has been discovered in India. Writes about this Reuters with reference to the Ministry of Health of the country.
“A new double mutation has been found in the country along with a number of other coronavirus variants,” the ministry said in a statement. So far, the Indian authorities do not have enough information to establish a direct link between the emergence of mutations and the rapid increase in cases in some states of the country.
In February, American scientists found that mutations in the British, South African and Brazilian strains of the coronavirus increased its infectivity by up to eight times. According to the latest WHO data, the British strain has already been found in 101 countries, the South African strain in 51 countries, and the Brazilian strain in 29 countries.
In March, Switzerland's federal adviser for internal affairs, Alain Berse, responsible for public health, said the death rate for those infected with the new strains was over 50 percent.
