A new strain of coronavirus, dubbed B.1.525, has been discovered in Norway. This was reported by the broadcaster NRK with reference to the National Institute of Public Health.
It is also indicated that it is known about ten cases of infection with the strain B.1.525 in the last day in Norway. “We do not yet know if it is more contagious, but it is likely,” said the head of the institute's department, Line Vold.
She noted that various strains of the coronavirus have already been identified in Norway, which is typical to change over time.
Earlier, Yle TV reported that a new strain of coronavirus, dubbed Fin-796H, was discovered in Finland. According to doctors, the new version of the infection contains mutations that are observed in the British and South African strains. Presumably, the mutation developed somewhere outside Finland.
Since the beginning of December 2020, it became known about the appearance of new mutated strains of SARS-CoV-2 from the UK, South Africa, Israel and Brazil. These variants of the virus appear to spread more easily, and this could lead to an increase in cases, deaths and hospitalizations.
