In Belgium, from Sunday, December 26, tougher measures to combat the coronavirus pandemic began to be implemented due to fears of the spread of the omicron strain. This was reported by Kommersant.

Cinemas, theaters, concert halls and other entertainment organizations have closed in the country. The admission of spectators to sporting events is also prohibited.

Pupils from the age of six were obliged to wear protective masks in schools. Also, it was decided to close educational institutions ahead of schedule for the holidays until January 10.

Company executives were encouraged to transfer employees to remote work whenever possible. They must work from home at least four days a week.

In addition, New Year and Christmas markets in Belgian cities were completely closed a week earlier than usual.

Earlier in December, hundreds of people marched through downtown Brussels to protest tightening coronavirus restrictions in Belgium. With shouts of “Freedom! Liberty!” and banners with the inscription “Together for our freedom, rights and our children” people marched to the headquarters of the European Union.
