Since Friday, On January 5, Nepal banned its citizens from traveling to Russia and Ukraine to seek work after several of its citizens fighting alongside Russian forces died during the war.

This is reported by Reuters.

According to Nepalese authorities, at least ten Nepalese citizens died on the Ukrainian front. Four more Nepalese who fought on the side of the Russian troops were captured by the Ukrainian army.

According to Nepalese Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal, at least 200 Nepalese citizens have signed up for the the Russian army, and the country's Foreign Minister Narayan Prakash Saud says that about a hundred Nepalese citizens are considered missing.

Nepal asked Russia not to recruit its citizens into the Russian army and immediately send all Nepalese soldiers back to this Himalayan country and pay compensation to the families of the victims.

“Nepalese soldiers, known as Gurkhas, are known for their bravery and fighting skills, and have served in the British and Indian armies since India's independence in 1947 under an agreement between the three countries. There is no such agreement with Russia,” – explains the publication.

The Nepalese government's refusal to issue work permits in Russia means that Nepalese are losing the right to government support in case of emergencies or compensation for their families in case of death.

Recall that earlier a Russian prisoner from Nepal told how and why he went to fight against Ukraine.
