Mark Rutte noted that Europe should "not show weakness" to Russia.
NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte called on Germany to significantly increase defense spending and increase weapons production, since preparing for war is the best way to avoid it.
He said this in an interview with the German publication Bild.
According to Rutte, Germany should “spend more and produce more.”
“I am telling you very clearly: we must prepare for war. This is the best way to avoid war,” the NATO Secretary General emphasized.
Mark Rutte also noted that Europe should “not show weakness” towards Russia. “Otherwise, Russia might try something. Just like in Ukraine,” he said.
At the same time, the NATO Secretary General noted that the danger comes not only from Russia, since the Chinese have also “enormously expanded” their military capabilities.
Mark Rutte emphasized that Germany “has done a lot right” since the start of the Russian war in Ukraine, but added that “given the size of the German economy, we naturally want them to do much more.”
The NATO Secretary General also announced that the future defense spending quota will be much more than two percent. The corresponding decision, according to him, will be made in the coming months, taking into account the next NATO summit in The Hague, which will take place in June.
“I can assure you of one thing: it will be much, much, much more than two percent,” Rutte said.
Recall that European countries are preparing for a potential war with Russia, strengthening their defense capabilities in case of escalation.
