NATO stated that the time after the end of the "Cold War" has passed and other conditions are coming.
Russia will remain a serious threat to countries NATO even after the war in Ukraine.
This was stated by the Supreme Allied Commander of NATO in Europe, Christopher Cavoli, reports Atlantic Council< /strong>.
He noted that after the end of the Cold War, NATO refocused on conducting crisis management operations far beyond its borders. This allowed you to participate in missions on your own terms, but everything changed after the start of Russian aggression against Ukraine.
“The war has shown that today you either win at the front, quickly and with large forces, or you enter into a long struggle. So… win at the front, but be prepared for a long victory,” said Cavoli.
The general said that Russia will pose a long-term threat to the Alliance and that Western countries will have a “Russian problem for many years” as Moscow works to increase the size of its army and restore losses.
“The Russian army in Ukraine is now larger than it was at the beginning of hostilities. Many troops are not as high quality… a lot of the equipment used is outdated: it has been repaired, but is based on an old model,” he noted.
Kavu emphasized that the main problem is not that the Russian army is recovering quickly, but how quickly it can do so compared to Western countries. The general said maintaining the speed advantage is a matter of maintaining “political will” and developing “elasticity” in the defense industrial base.
“Many countries that face Russian influence are now looking to the West for new security partners. While the Alliance was created to protect its members, we do not exist in a vacuum. We need friends and partners.” , he said.
Recall that it was previously reported that another NATO country named the conditions for sending troops to Ukraine.
In addition, we previously informed that NATO made a powerful statement on Ukraine.
