The dialogue with Russia will take place with consultations with the European partners of the Alliance, in particular with Ukraine.

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg will initiate in the new year a dialogue with the Kremlin on European security in the format of a meeting of the NATO-Russia Council.

As reported on the official NATO website , he stated this during a meeting with Romanian Prime Minister Nicolae Chuke in Brussels.

At this meeting, in particular, they discussed the build-up of the Russian military presence at the borders of Ukraine. The NATO Secretary General stressed that “despite international calls for transparency and de-escalation, the buildup continues.”

“We have made it clear that any further aggression against Ukraine will come at a very high cost. We will also continue to support our close partner Ukraine, both politically and practically. And we stand for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, as well as for the right of Ukraine to choose its own path, “Jens Stoltenberg said during a press conference.

The NATO Secretary General assured that the Alliance remains ready for a meaningful dialogue with Russia, and expressed his intention to convene a new meeting of the NATO-Russia Council early next year. He also added that any dialogue should be based on the basic principles of European security and that it should take place in consultation with NATO's European partners, including Ukraine.

Let us remind you that earlier Jens Stoltenberg assured that NATO would never compromise on the security of Ukraine.
