NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, during a press conference following a two-day meeting with the defense ministers of the alliance, refused to predict the future of the situation in Ukraine, writes TASS.

According to him, the alliance does not know how the situation around Ukraine will develop further, whether Russia is going to invade its territory or not, but stressed that Moscow has all the necessary opportunities for this.

At the same time, despite the lack of understanding of Russia's intentions, Stoltenberg promised that the alliance “will denounce the actions of the Russian Federation.”

The Secretary General also spoke about a “new reality in Europe”, in which the Russian Federation allegedly uses force and the threat of its use to change the security system established after the Cold War. He also promised to strengthen the alliance's defenses and deploy new NATO battlegroups on the eastern flank, in particular in Romania.

Earlier, Spanish Defense Minister Margarita Robles, participating in a meeting at the level of NATO heads of departments in Brussels, noted that at present the alliance has ceased to indicate any exact date for Russia's invasion of Ukraine. “We did not see that there was a de-escalation from Russia. True, the invasion that was talked about did not happen today, but the threat of invasion remains, ”she said.
